Following a rollercoaster year of competition in capital markets, Markets Media is anticipating a bumper roster of nominees for ‘Excellence in Leadership’ in the European Women in Finance Awards (EWIFA) 2024.

This award, which recognises those leaders who have brought their team through challenging times to success, celebrates the essential role of leadership in our industry.

In years past, the glittering EWIFA event has seen a diverse range of winners in this category.

In 2023, at the Langham Hotel in London, DTCC’s Marla Dwyer took the award, saying, “Leadership is a privilege. My achievements are only possible because of my team. Ultimately, my job is to make sure that my team is supported and given the opportunities to develop and grow. I believe it is critical that members of a team know they are empowered, have a voice and understand that they each play a meaningful role in the work that is done.”

At the same time the need for recognition was driven home by Bloomberg’s Paula Fry, winner of the award in 2022, when she spoke of her earlier career in trading.

Paula Fry, Bloomberg.

“I didn’t put my hand up for much, because I didn’t want to call too much attention to myself, and as the only woman in the room, I felt I needed to be one of the guys,” she said. “I should have seen being a woman as being a superpower – it’s something I’ve embraced later in my career, and has paid dividends in experience I have and the opportunities that come my way.”
