Mizuho Financial Group has issued a €500 million green bond, part of its core business theme of sustainability and innovation.

Funds raised by the issuance will be provided to Mizuho Bank and used to finance environmentally-friendly projects, the firm shared.

The bond has been issued in response to investor interest in the environmental space, Mizuho stated, and forms part of its JPY 100 trillion sustainable finance target – JPY 50 trillion of which is allocated for environment and climate-related finance, generating further money flows.

Through such initiatives, Mizuho aims to support its clients’ sustainability transitions, strengthen the competitiveness of Japanese industries and lead structural transformation towards decarbonisation, it said.

Mizuho has issued and managed a number of green bonds based on its green bond framework, which is in line with the 2021 International Capital Market Association’s Green Bond Principles.
