Despite the dominance of equities, bonds were 2024’s growth story in Deutsche Börse’s cash markets.

Börse Frankfurt recorded €818 million in December (up 29% YoY from €633 million) and €9 billion over the year (up 12% YoY from €8.5 billion). These are the highest yearly results the group has seen since 2012.

As a group, Deutsche Börse reported €1.3 trillion in cash market trading volume across Börse Frankfurt and Xetra in 2024, up from €1.2 trillion in 2023.

Within equities, the group’s order book turnover was €79.8 billion in December and €1 trillion over 2024. This marks a 2% increase from 2023’s results.

In December, order book turnover reached €104.86 billion (up 7% year-on-year from €97.4 billion but down 13% from November’s €118.72 billion).

The bulk of this – €101.33 billion – was traded on Xetra, which reported average daily turnover of €5.63 billion. This represents an increase of 13% YoY and 2% month-on month.
