Mikael Björkman has joined Credit Suisse’s private bank as the head of Execution in Fixed Income, joining from UBS’ private bank where he was head of Data Driven Insight.

“Mikael’s original background is in technology,” says a former colleague. “Together with his experience as buy-side trader, this gives him a nice – and rare – combination of relevant skills in both worlds of IT and the trading business.”

Björkman’s unusual background originally saw him join UBS Investment Bank from the European Commission as an IT developer in the fixed income currency and commodities space. From there he moved into the firm’s investment management arm of its core wealth management business. He transferred into the role of fixed income trader in 2013 where his skills as an algorithmic execution specialist were used to good effect in developing a more automated fixed income trading environment of the future.

In 2018, following the departure of fixed income trading head, Erik Tham, to MarketAxess, Björkman was promoted to his role in developing data-led insights in the fixed income space for UBS private bank. Credit Suisse declined to comment on the appointment.
