The Asia Securities Industry & Financial Markets Association (ASIFMA) has named Peter Stein its new CEO. Stein is currently CEO and managing director of the Private Wealth Management Association (PWMA).
Stein will be based in Hong Kong and will become CEO on 8 February 2024, replacing Alice Law who resigned in July 2023.
Talking exclusively to The DESK, Stein said, “It is not an easy decision to leave PWMA. Over the last seven years, I have been fortunate play a role in raising the association’s profile and building its influence. At the same time, I’m very excited about the opportunity to lead ASIFMA and spearhead the next chapter of its development.”
Prior to joining PWMA in December 2016, Stein worked for UBS AG, where he served as head of regulatory advisory and relations for the Asia Pacific (APAC) region. Prior to that, he was head of group governmental affairs for APAC. While at UBS, Stein was also an ASIFMA board member.
Until 2011, Peter was a senior editor, reporter and columnist in Hong Kong with The Wall Street Journal, where he worked for more than 20 years. He was the Journal’s Hong Kong bureau chief from 2005 to 2011 and before that was managing editor of the Journal’s Asian edition.
